Your mind-body-personality-unit is the lens that colors and shapes the light of consciousness as it projects on the screen of the world. When we are unconscious, meaning not aware of or fully in control of our actions and mental states, we are inclined to let random moods and whims determine how we feel and interact with our environment. What ever is presented to us, we react to as if on autopilot, based on the accumulated responses we have learned from others or from our own past experiences, which are often not relevant to the current circumstance. Living life in this way does little to improve the picture show of the world, serving only to sustain the status quo. To encourage a different experience, we can choose to think and feel in ways that support the circumstances we desire to see.
As conscious beings, we can learn to envision and thereby create future possibilities and opportunities. We are not separate entities from the Universe, and the Universe provides for us based on the thoughts in our minds. It also takes note of emotional states we seem to enjoy, and presents circumstances to experience those same emotions again. The emotions we enjoy are the ones we allow to fill our awareness on a regular basis. The label of good or bad is irrelevant to this process. When we can sincerely accept positive feelings as the norm, circumstances will align to provide the opportunity to encourage the experience.
These things take practice and time. Sometimes the way we see the world is deeply ingrained and it seems like it is going to take a lot of work to change our perspective and thereby our experiences. It may take work, but there are two important things to remember. The work is worth it, and the Universe, once assured of your sincerity, is unconditionally supportive. Once you are established in a joyful, peaceful, discerning, loving, mentally clear, and fully conscious state, that state will maintain itself just as your past negative state did for as long as you choose to sustain it.
So you see, there are no punishments or rewards in life, only the effects of the choices we have made. There may be some choices we have so strongly empowered that time is necessary for the full force to exhaust itself, but with patience we can wait out the effects, all the while changing our life’s momentum by changing how we decide to think, feel and act in the present moment.
